Pro Audio Systems Provide Massive Surround System For Major Film Festival
For the second successive year Pro Audio Systems were engaged to provide an immersive surround-sound system for the Leeds International Film Festival's main venue, the magnificent 1500-capacity Leeds Town Hall.
The sophisticated audio system comprised a Meyer Sound loudspeaker system driven by a Yamaha LS9 digital mixing console via a Meyer Sound Galileo 616 system controller. An Extron SSP7.1 surround processor / decoder handled incoming signals from both DVD and Blu-Ray players.
The nature of the building and the size of the audiences dictated the deployment of a multi-zoned Meyer Sound audio rig. The main system comprised a pair of UPA-2Ps for main L&R plus a UPA-1 for the centre channel, two 700HP subwoofers (in a cardioid pattern) and eight UPM-1Ps for the L&R surround channels. The very large balcony required its own supplementary flown system which again comprised UPA-2Ps and a single UPA-1 for its L/R/C reinforcement, plus a further six UPM-1Ps for the surround channels.
Meyer Sound's SIM3 analysis tool, along with eight DPA4007 microphones, was used to set up the system, while the MAPP Online program predicted the positioning and angling of the various flown enclosures with such accuracy that nothing had to be adjusted once in the air.

Now the biggest film event in England outside of London, LIFF is centred on Leeds Town Hall, one of the largest venues used for film screenings in the North. Pro Audio provided expert installation of digital surround sound at the venue for the duration of the Film Festival, covering all digital screening formats including Digital Cinema Projection for the first time. Audiences at LIFF25 told us they had a great experience, and partners like Pro Audio made a big contribution to this success'.
